Road Trip!

This summer the boys got to go on their first real road trip!  We don't really count the drives to Orlando since those are only about 2 hours each way.  For our first road trip we ventured out to the Florida Panhandle and enjoyed the beautiful beaches of Sandestin, Florida.  We were totally in awe at the beauty of the beach.  Sands were soft and white and the water was so clear you could see the fish swimming.  It was also neat because the ocean shelf allowed us to walk out far into the ocean with the water just up to our waist.  The boys loved the waves and playing in the sand.

In order to make the trip in more comfortable fashion, we rented a minivan, which turned out to be a Chrysler Town & Country.  The boys loved it and we definitely see a minivan sometime in our future, albeit later rather than sooner.  We are super proud of the boys though since they did great on the 6+ hour drive each way.  It only took about 45 minutes into the drive before they started asking how much longer, but overall, no real meltdowns either way.  We did get to see every other rest stop between Jacksonville and Sandestin though, but we will skip the details about the emergency bathroom stop on the way home at the abandoned gas station.

Here are some pictures from our trip.

Our minivan...ok not the exact one, but we didn't think of taking a picture of it so this is a stock photo we found on the internet of the car.

An aerial photo of hte hotel we stayed at.

Fun at the beach!

Headed back to the room.

The dinner on the beach was wasted on the boys since they completely ignored the scenery.

Even bedtime was an adventure.  The rooms featured bunk beds, which the boys thoroughly enjoyed.  We weren't ready for them to sleep on the top bunk though so we made it into a "cave" for them to get them to bed.  You will also notice in the pictures below masks and capes.  The boys got into superheroes about 6 months ago and are obsessed with batman, superman, ironman, and whatever other man is out there.  Valerie bought them some masks and capes and they have worn them obsessively almost every day since.

Daddy reading before bedtime.

We are going to spare the details about our potty break on the drive back, but a picture is worth a thousand words right?
So all in all, the first road trip was a huge success and we had a great time.  Definitely recommend the beaches out in the Florida Panhandle!  We hope to rent a house out there for our next trip.

hah! Just in that one post, I see C wearing 3 different masks. haha I don't think I fully comprehended the impact that the super hero theme has had.
